Hermosillo hosted the Caribbean Series in 1992, and Puerto Rico's Indios de Mayagüez claimed the championship with a 5-1 record, finishing ahead of Venezuela's Águilas del Zulia who were the runner-up. Mayagüez's title added another chapter to Puerto Rico's long history of success in the regional competition.
