Founded in 1938, the same year the LBPRC was established, Leones de Ponce are one of Puerto Rico's oldest professional baseball franchises. Playing in black and red at Estadio Francisco 'Paquito' Montaner, the Lions dominated the league's formative decade, winning four consecutive LBPRC championships from 1942 to 1945 and adding a fifth in 1947. That early dynasty was built around Francisco Coimbre, one of the finest Puerto Rican players of his era, whose talent anchored the Ponce lineup through the league's inaugural years.
The pinnacle of Leones de Ponce history came at the 1972 Caribbean Series in Santo Domingo, where the Lions represented Puerto Rico and posted a 5-1 record to claim the championship — the only Caribbean Series title in the club's history. Eleven LBPRC league championships in total, including titles in 1969, 1970, 1982, 2004, and 2009, confirm Ponce's standing among the island's most decorated franchises. After a decade of inactivity, the club returned to the LBPRC for the 2022-23 season, restoring one of Puerto Rico's proudest baseball names to active competition.

2022-23 — Return to Active Competition. After a decade of inactivity, Leones de Ponce rejoined the LBPRC for the 2022-23 season, returning one of Puerto Rico's most storied franchises to the island's winter league.
