Santiago hosted the Caribbean Series in 2008, and the Dominican Republic's Tigres del Licey claimed the championship with a 5-1 record, finishing ahead of Mexico's Venados de Mazatlán who were the runner-up. The title gave Licey yet another Caribbean Series crown and extended the Dominican Republic's dominance of the tournament.
