Mexicali hosted the Caribbean Series in 2009, and Venezuela's Tigres de Aragua claimed the championship with a 5-1 record, finishing ahead of the Dominican Republic's Águilas Cibaeñas who were the runner-up. The victory gave Aragua their first Series title and Venezuela another strong result in the competition.
