Luis Polonia

Luis Polonia, born December 10, 1963, played in more Caribbean Series than anyone in the tournament's history. A leadoff hitter known as "La Hormiga Atómica," the Atomic Ant, he turned contact and patience into the deepest record book in the event.

The Atomic Ant

In the majors he played for the Athletics, Yankees, Angels, Braves, Orioles and Tigers, and won the World Series with Atlanta in 1995 and New York in 2000. In the Caribbean he played for the Águilas Cibaeñas, Leones del Escogido and Tigres del Licey, and became one of the pillars of the Dominican run in the tournament.

Caribbean Series Record

Polonia appeared in 14 Series, the most of any player, and won seven titles: five with the Águilas, one with Escogido and one with Licey. He holds the all-time records for games (78), at-bats (312), hits (94) and doubles (19), and ranks second in runs with 50. The closest active player in hits, Junior Lake, has 41.

Six-Time All-Star

Polonia made the Series All-Star team six times: in left field in 1987, 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2003, and as designated hitter in 1999. Few players have stayed this good for this long on the tournament's biggest stage.
